Ember Outing

Ember Outing was written to fit the feeling of the theme images of a campfire, a cozy cabin, and celebration with champagne. The words that came to mind when first seeing the theme images included “warm”, “comfortable”, “celebratory”, “intimate”, and “tranquil”. I sought to encapsulate all of these emotions into the theme that would accompany this theme which is intended to be the end credit theme of the imaginary game “Ember Outing” in which the main characters are all having a celebration around the campfire once they’ve returned from their journey capturing fireflies in the woods. To capture an intimate feeling, I used primarily acoustic instrumentation driven by various guitars, pianos, upright bass, and cajon. The warmth and tranquility are conveyed in the predominantly major scale with borrowed major chords from other modes to add color and extra warmth. And finally with the upbeat tempo, the classic video game celebratory cadence (bVI-bVII-I) is used to help invoke the sense of success and celebration that comes at the end of completing a fun game.
